The Volkswagen Jetta and the Ford Fusion each have very different engines under the hood. The VW Jetta includes the 1.4L turbocharged and intercooled TSI® 4-cylinder engine, while the Ford Fusion comes with a more traditional 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. Although each vehicle can deliver power, it’s the VW Jetta that produces more torque at 184 lb-ft, while the Fusion falls short at 175 lb-ft of torque.
The VW Jetta engine is turbocharged and intercooled, meaning that it can reach its highest level of performance while the engine remains at an optimal temperature. The Fusion engine doesn’t include an intercooler.
The Fusion and VW Jetta each include dashboard-mounted display screens within their cabins. The Volkswagen Jetta includes the 6.5-inch Composition Color touchscreen, while the Fusion includes the SYNC® screen that only measures 4.2 inches. Each sedan includes an AM/FM radio, USB and auxiliary inputs, and Bluetooth®.
The Volkswagen Jetta comes with the Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect. This feature integrates your phone into the screen and gives you direct access to your contacts, apps, and media library. The Fusion offers a similar connectivity feature but only after an upgrade.
The VW Jetta and Ford Fusion both offer plenty of available driver-assisting technology features designed to help prevent or reduce the severity of a collision. Each vehicle is outfitted with exterior-mounted sensors that measure the proximity of the object ahead, the rate of approach, and the lines in the road.
Each sedan includes pre-collision systems that can detect a possible collision and use braking power to mitigate the crash. The respective lane-keeping systems are designed to ensure that the vehicle remains on its intended path. However, only the VW Jetta offers standard Adaptive Cruise Control, which is a benefit to daily highway drivers because it can adapt to the flow of traffic without needing driver intervention.
