The Beetle Rides Again

About , Home No Comments »

Personalization has taken over. Everything can now be tailored to our personal taste, from clothes to phones, nothing is immune. Everything we own gives an impression to others about who we are or who we want to be. It’s not trivial then that our car’s make and model are influencing how other drivers view us behind the wheel.

Long gone are the Model T and the opportunity to choose any car color as long as it was black. We may not all drive the same car but our ability to customize, accentuate, decorate or even give a car a name demonstrates the rise of individualizing our lives and demonstrates more about us than we think.

While this may sound strange to some, giving a car a name has been around for some time. Herbie may have not been the first, and he won’t be the last car to be personalized with a name. The Love Bug proved to us that an endearing and distinctive car can’t be judged by its hood. Herbie was known as the spunky race car that won races even with a mere four cylinder engine, unlike the Corvette’s v12’s of today. The old bug may be retired, and been redesigned once before in its 73 year history, but in 2012 a new breed of Volkswagen Beetle will once again change the perception of what the bug can do. The second generation Beetle may have been thought of as a young girl’s car, even coming with a matching flower vase for the dash. But now, lowered and lengthened to look sportier, the new 2012 Beetle will once again be turning heads and competing on the track. With its more masculine body and the availability of a 200-turbo model, the 2012 bug will change drivers and owner’s minds alike. The 6 speed DSG Transmission will have owners loving their bug as they relive the speed and vitality represented in the movie, the Love Bug. This time around, Herbie truly will “ride again”, creating excitement for a whole new generation of enthusiasts. Check out the 2012 Beetle at: mcdonaldvw.com

McDonald Volkswagen Launches Loner Bike Program

News 2 Comments »

A Volkswagen dealership might seem like the last place you would go to develop some muscle. With McDonald’s bicycle loaner program customers now have the chance to get a workout while getting their car worked on.

McDonald Volkswagen is reinventing the concept of receiving a loaner when coming in for automotive service. Being without your vehicle can be an inconvenience, but it doesn’t have to be. Not only can a customer receive a loaner car, but now they can use a loaner bicycle. A one-of-a-kind program, McDonald Volkswagen is giving customers the option to cut emissions while increasing their daily activity. Four brand new Trek bikes will be available, free of cost with any service. The bikes include shocks, a cushioned leather seat with matching handle bars. A lock and helmet is also complimentary in your size for your safety.

Denver is constantly ranked among the healthiest cities and has one of the most extensive trail systems in the country. There are plenty of places to ride with the dealership in close proximity to retail and restaurants. While service is being done, customers can shop, grab a bite or enjoy the Highline Canal which is only a half mile away.

Todd Dunbar, a service consultant has really seen the program steadily pick up since it started last month. “We have had really good feedback and everyone seems to be giving it thumbs up. We have already had a dozen or so people check them out.”

Dunbar just recently had a husband and wife trade their four wheels in for two, when they took the bikes to their home in Highlands Ranch. Another customer took a bike on a 19-mile commute each way during his service.

With the bikes just feet from the customer service desk, it’s easy to take advantage of the bike loaner program. Just grab a helmet and go. What could be better? You can tune up your body while you tune up your car.

VW Creates New Cars And New Jobs In Chattanooga

2011 marks the year for Volkswagen to expand their presence in the United States with the opening of their new manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This new plant will have over 2,000 employees producing up to 150,000 vehicles per year. 1,700 people are already employed directly by Volkswagen in Chattanooga and 10,000 additional jobs will be created in the U.S. supply industry.

At the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Dr. Klaus Scharioth, German Ambassador to the United States, Bill Haslam, Governor of the U.S. State of Tennessee, Jonathan Browning, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, as well as U.S. senators Robert Corker and Lamar Alexander, Prof. Winterkorn stated: “The Volkswagen Group has finally arrived as a local manufacturer in the United States. We are proud to be part of this great automobile nation as a producer, an employer and as a friend and good neighbor to people in the region.”

Since construction started in 2009, an automobile plant including body shop, paint shop, assembly facility, technical testing center, academy for the initial and advanced training of employees, and a supplier park have been built on a 1,400 acre site in Chattanooga. The United States is one of the world’s largest automobile markets and the new U.S. plant lays the foundation for Volkswagen to meet its target of increasing sales in the United States to more than a million vehicles per year by 2018 at the same time as winning a market share of about six percent for the Volkswagen Group.

The New Passat, which will launch later this summer, and the new Beetle, coming in September, will fully support this new objective to reach out to the American people. The new models are specifically designed to appeal to the American consumer and will carry on the legacy of Volkswagen performance well into the future.

The construction of this new manufacturing plant has not only created thousands of U.S. jobs but has also created an opportunity for the launch of their brand new 2012 models. With the excitement surrounding the new, innovative manufacturing plant and the anticipation of the 2012 models, Volkswagen lovers and driving aficionados alike are looking forward to the newly established presence of the German automobile company.
